A bottle of champagne with a picture of a non-fungible token (NFT) printed on it broke the record for the highest price ever sold.

According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on the 12th (local time), on the 8th French champagne maker Avenue Posh’s “Magnum 2.5” was sold to the Italian entrepreneur Giovanni Buono brothers for $2.5 million (approximately 3.27 billion won). This is a new record, surpassing that of 1874 Perrier Joux, which sold for £42,875 (about 67 million won) at Christie's auction last year.

This champagne is not the highest grade, Grand Cru, but the second highest Premier Cru grade. In-house brand champagne made from the same grapes by producers supplying grapes to Avenue Posey costs only $14.6 (about 20,000 won).

Nevertheless, it is because of the NFT artist's painting attached to the bottle that this champagne broke the record for the highest price of wine ever sold. Five NFT images are printed on the bottle, and ownership of the NFT can be transferred along with the purchase of the bottle. The popular NFT collection ‘Board Ape Yacht Club (BAYC)’ and character images such as bats and vampires were printed. The price for which the champagne company bought 5 NFT images is known to be $28,000 (approximately 36.7 million won).

The Buono brothers, who bought Champagne, are entrepreneurs from Italian fashion families and have been investing in cryptocurrencies since 2014. “There is a lot of turmoil in the investment market and things are changing very quickly, but the rich will find a place to store their money,” Buono said. “That place could be champagne with NFTs attached to it.”
