The second highest price was Pablo Picasso's "Busted'homme dans un cadre(1969)", owned by 'original James Bond' Sean Connery. The bid started at 100 million Hong Kong dollars(12.7 million dollars) and was finally awarded at 174.95 million Hong Kong dollars(about 28.1 billion won). It is characterized by a clean composition, elegant and decisive lines, and a man's intense expression, and is considered one of the masterpieces among the works of the last 10 years of Picasso's life. One of the protagonists of the match was Yoshitomo Nara, a star Japanese artist. 'Wish World Peace(2014)', a close-up portrait of one of his signature little girls with huge eyes, sold for HK$97 million. According to the Artnet Price Database, this work last appeared at an auction in 2016 and was sold for about 2.9 billion won, so the price jumped five times in six years.David Hockney's latest work, a hexagon-shaped landscape painting, 'Nichol's Canyon III' (2017) earned HK$94.8 million (approximately KRW 15.2 billion). 'Saule pleureur', one of a series of 10 paintings by Claude Monet depicting weeping willows while confined to Giverny during World War I, was also auctioned off for the first time in Asia and sold for HK$95 million (approximately KRW 15.3 billion), below the estimated price.'Listen Up!(1980)' by Ernie Barnes, an African-American artist who has recently been receiving attention rather late, was sold for 7.6 million Hong Kong dollars (approximately 1.2 billion won). The work, which depicts people with long limbs dancing happily, set a record for his third-place auction after his work broke the $1million mark twice in the past week alone.Works by Korean artists were also promoted. 'Water Drop No.2M', a 1978 painting by Kim Tschang-yeol, which was introduced at this evening auction and filled with water droplets, also found a new owner. It was submitted for an estimated price of 3.8 million to 5.8 million Hong Kong dollars (600 million to 950 million won) and was awarded at 7.06 million Hong Kong dollars (approximately 1.132 billion won).
Artist Lee Seong-ja's 'Subitement la loi' was also submitted for an estimated price of 3~4 million Hong Kong dollars (500~650 million won), and was sold for 5.67 million Hong Kong dollars(approximately 909.46 million won), far exceeding the estimated price. As one of the 'Femme-terre' series, this work stands out for its lyricism by capturing maternal love on canvas. In the NFT auction that followed the evening auction on this day, Takashi Murakami's 'Clone X' #4346, a topical work, was submitted, but unfortunately it was unsuccessful. This work is a work wearing a golden samurai helmet, of which there are only two out of 20,000 pieces, and it was put on the market for 5~7 million Hong Kong dollars (approximately 0.8~1.15 billion won), but the starting price of 5 million Hong Kong dollars(about 800 million won), it failed to find a successful bidder. The aftermath of the NFT market slump, which is going through harsh times, seems crazy.
