The “Copyright Guidelines to Keep in Mind When Trading Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT),” co-authored by lawyers and professors at the Graduate School of Law, has been published.

According to the legal community on the 17th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, along with the Korea Copyright Protection Agency and the Korea Copyright Commission, recently issued a guidebook containing matters that sellers, exchanges, buyers, and right holders should take note of to avoid damage due to copyright infringement when trading NFTs. published.

It was written by Attorney Lim Hyeong-joo, who served as co-team leader of the NFT and Metaverse team at Law Firm Yulchon, Park Kyung-shin, an adjunct professor at Ewha Womans University Law School, Lawyer Oh Jin-hae at the Korea Copyright Protection Agency, and Jeon Jae-rim, Senior Researcher at the Korea Copyright Commission.

As the NFT market draws attention, copyright disputes related to it are also occurring. The guide has been divided into sellers, exchanges, buyers, and rights holders so that people who trade NFTs can easily check what they need to be aware of within the scope of the current copyright law.

Above all, the guide explained that when trading NFTs, copyrights should be considered more carefully than trading existing works. It is said that copyright can be infringed if copyright is transferred from the copyright holder or if NFT is issued without permission to use, or if the work connected to the NFT is used.

When purchasing NFTs, be sure to check copyright-related matters. In order to prevent unnecessary disputes, exchanges should also notify copyright-related content in advance.

This guide can be found on the websites of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Copyright Protection Agency, and the Copyright Commission. For copyright consultations related to NFTs, use the consultation office of the Copyright Protection Agency and the Copyright Commission.
