An art work realized with LG Display's transparent organic light emitting diode(OLED) was recently sold for billions of won at an auction.

LG Display announced on the 25th that the “An Important Memories for Humanity,” a non-fungible token(NFT) collection created in collaboration with media artist Refic Anadol, was sold at a recent auction for $6.2 million (approximately 8 billion won).

This collection is made by reinterpreting various data collected from the first private space tourism project of private spaceflight company SpaceX with artificial intelligence(AI).

In September of last year, SpaceX launched a spacecraft called "Crew Dragon" with four civilians on board, and succeeded in space tourism traveling along Earth's orbit at an altitude of 360 miles.

At the time, Refic Anadol worked on visualizing various flight data such as audio, video, and occupant health information of the spacecraft, and transparent OLED developed by LG Display was used here.

In order to certify that it is an original work, it was created as an NFT work that recorded the ownership, copyright, transaction history, etc. of the work on the blockchain.

The successful bidder will receive LG Display's transparent OLED containing the NFT work.

According to the will of the artist, 30% of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to St. Jude Children's Hospital in the United States.

Transparent OLED is a technology that maximizes the advantages of OLED, which emits light by itself without a backlight, and realizes high transparency, thin, light, and clear picture quality.

Currently, large transparent OLEDs are mass-produced by LG Display, the only company in the world.
