Video game retailer GameStop(ticker:GME) announced that it has launched a digital asset wallet for non-fungible token(NFT) and cryptocurrency. According to Market Watch on the 23rd(local time), the company explained that digital wallets allow gamers and other users to store, send, receive, and use cryptocurrency and NFT in decentralized apps without leaving their web browsers. Decentralized apps are like regular apps, but only run on a blockchain or P2P network of computers.
Game Stop said in a press release that this wallet extension will be available for download on the Chrome Web Store and will also be available for trading on the NFT Marketplace, which will launch in Q2.
GameStop shares rose 3.7% in pre-opening trading on this news.
GameStop stock, which was the leader in meme stocks(stocks that became a hot topic on social media) last year and soared as individual investors declared war on institutional investors' short selling, has fallen 36% so far this year.
