On the 25th, LG Uplus will issue a non-fungible token(NFT) using its representative character 'Moono'. Made in the shape of an octopus, he is a newcomer to society with many dreams who says everything he wants to say without paying attention. The YouTube video titled 'Introduce me to a person to be together', in which Moono appears, is so popular that it has recorded 9.84 million cumulative views. 50 Moono NFT that came out as a pre-order were sold out in 9 minutes. LG U+ will issue 200 NFTs through its dedicated website, and will introduce the second work in the second half of this year.

Telecommunication companies and information technology (IT) companies are jumping into the character NFT market. A character NFT is a digital asset with a character such as a person or animal as a motif.

The Moono NFT concept issued by LG Uplus is 'workers with various emotions on weekdays and weekends'. It is issued in Klaytn, a domestic virtual currency. LG Uplus is the only domestic telecommunications company to enter the NFT market. LG Uplus is also active in building a community that is essential for the success of NFTs. We plan to provide community channels for NFT holders (holders) that have fallen through social network services (SNS) such as Discord and Twitter, and provide differentiated benefits. All proceeds from issuing NFTs are donated to charity.

Jeong Hye Yoon, head of marketing group at LG Uplus(Director), said, “We planned the Moono NFT to strengthen communication with fans and prepare activities that can be done together,” and "It is designed so that consumers can exert a good influence at the same time as purchasing by linking the collapsed NFT with the donation of proceeds." Director Jung also said, "We see a high possibility of NFT community, a new way to communicate with MZ generation customers," and "We plan to carry out various projects where customers can participate in the story provided by the brand."

Naver and Kakao are also entering the character NFT business. Naver plans to grow its NFT business through the NFT platform 'Dosi' being developed by 'Line Next', a subsidiary of the messenger platform 'Line'. Naver Headquarters, Naver Webtoon, and Naver Jet, which operates the Metaverse platform ZEPETO, will join at the same time. Earlier this year, Kakao set a record of selling out in one minute by issuing a limited number of 100 NFTs based on Kakao Entertainment's popular webtoon "Only I Level Up" intellectual property(IP). Game companies, including NCsoft and Krafton, are also rushing to prepare to enter the NFT market with popular characters in games.

Character NFTs are also popular overseas. According to NFT market research firm Nonfungible, the cumulative transaction volume of 'Boring Ape Yacht Club (BAYC)' and 'Crypto Punk', famous for their dotted face images, exceeded 3 trillion won and 2 trillion won, respectively, this year. Doodles, Cool Cat, and Cyber Kongz also have transactions in the hundreds of billions of won. The number of character NFT types has increased to about 100.

Character NFTs are attracting attention because of their business scalability. An official from the platform industry said, "In addition to collaborating with other brands, characters built in reality can be used in games or virtual worlds." It is also possible to build a strong community among holders who have the same NFT character. 30,000 NFTs of “Ape in training clothes” issued by Yuga Labs, a U.S. blockchain startup that actually developed “BAYC,” in partnership with global sports brand Adidas at the end of last year, were sold out even though they cost $765 each. The land in the metabus game 'Other Side', which Yuga Labs is developing with 'Boring Ape' as the main character, has recently been sold.
