TYM, a domestic agricultural machinery company, will issue a non-fungible token (NFT) for the first time in the industry. On the 27th of last month, TYM held an awards ceremony for the Tractor Design Contest at its headquarters in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and announced plans to issue NFTs using the grand prize-winning works.

TYM's Tractor Design Contest was held to raise public interest in agriculture and discover colorful visions for future mobility under the theme of 'the future agriculture you imagine and TYM's next-generation tractor'. 9 final winners were selected through an internal expert evaluation based on screening criteria such as originality, aesthetics, subject suitability, practical applicability, and overall completeness.

The grand prize went to Kang Hyeon Seok, who designed the fully autonomous tractor 'TORO'. TORO was designed in a compact size based on the expectation that the demand for one-person agricultural mobility will increase along with the increase in farming in their 20s and 30s. It is equipped with a solar panel that stores power and Mecanum wheels that can move in all directions at 360 degrees. Based on the global movement to realize smart agriculture and environmental protection and agricultural statistical surveys, it is evaluated that it fully reflected the increasing trend of young people entering agriculture.

TYM plans to issue NFT using the grand prize-winning works. This is a first in the agricultural machinery industry. The NFT issued this time will be distributed free of charge through TYM's official Instagram event in the future. Kang Hyeon Seok, the grand prize winner, said, “In order to bring the dynamic and sporty design favored by young people to the tractor, it was morphologically inspired by the image of a bull running in the field,” and "I'm very happy to receive the 1st prize in the first design contest of TYM, a leading agricultural machinery company in Korea that presents outstanding product design."

TYM is also considering holding contests on various topics such as product technology and information and communication technology (ICT) agriculture by expanding the subject of the contest to overall agriculture. TYM Chairman Kim Hee Yong said, "The next-generation tractor design presented by the winners will be the basis for TYM's new and innovative products," and "Starting with this tractor design contest, we will continue to do our best to establish the agricultural machinery innovation paradigm(system) together with future generations."
