As the irreplaceable token (NFT) market grows, digital "fanning" (the act of digging into what one likes) is also gaining popularity. If fans have been collecting "photo cards (phoca)" that print photos of singers, actors, athletes, and characters, "digital photo cards" that combine NFT have recently become popular.

NFT is a digital asset that uses blockchain encryption technology to give unique values to digital files such as pictures and videos, and is characterized by the fact that it is impossible to reproduce, forge, or modify.

The NFT market grew rapidly as the digital art market boomed after the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) According to market research firm Dabrader, global NFT sales increased 262 times from $94.9 million in 2020 to $24.9 billion last year. The number of accounts with NFTs also tripled to 6.42 million as of the 17th of this month compared to 2.94 million earlier this year.

Overseas, among NFTs produced by Tesla CEO Elon Musk's ex-lover and singer Grimes, "War Nymph," which features a baby angel defending Mars, was sold for about 6.5 billion won.

In Korea, Dunamu, the operator of Upbit, a virtual asset exchange, is actively pioneering the NFT market. Dunamu launched the NFT trading platform "Upbit NFT" as a beta service in November last year and introduced various genres of NFTs, including EBS's popular character Pengsu and cartoonist Kim Sung-mo's webtoon. Among them, the three-dimensional work "Pengsoo's Day" NFT, which utilizes Pengsoo's intellectual property rights (IP), was sold for 7.5 Ethereum (about 27 million won at the time), drawing keen attention.

Baseball player photo cards, which are gaining huge popularity among sports fans, are also being reborn as NFTs. The NFT project "K-Bollect," created by the Korea Professional Baseball (KBO) League in partnership with the Dunamu Consortium, drew fans' attention by publishing a video of Lee Dae-ho's retirement game from the Lotte Giants in September as an NFT (photo).

As NFT is also drawing attention as an alternative investment tool in the future, the NFT collection craze is expected to continue for the time being. Sung Deok-geun, a researcher at the Korean Law Institute, said, "The emergence of NFT has created a huge economic market that did not exist before for digital artists and digital collection creators."
