Seo has been immersed in the blockchain, metabus, and non-fungible token (NFT) industries since last year. This is the background of the book 《Web 3.0 Live Scene》, which was compiled after meeting and interviewing industry founders. Web 3.0 means returning the profits monopolized by the platform to users through technologies such as blockchain and NFT.
On the 13th, at the publication ceremony held in Gangnam, Seoul, I met Managing Director Seo and asked why he became interested in Web 3.0. “Last year, I heard that billions of rich people were born with cryptocurrencies and NFTs. Both manpower and money flowed that way. There are various controversies, but I felt intuition that the ‘map of wealth’ around the world is changing.”
He had already participated in the 2018 Phantom Coin ICO (New Cryptocurrency Publication) and had invested in cryptocurrency himself.
Regarding the potential of Korean companies related to Web 3.0, Managing Director Seo said, “The domestic game industry, such as Netmarble Com2uS, is rapidly changing, such as entering the P2E (Play to Earn) and P2O (Play to Own) markets. He predicted, “As China is implementing a regulatory policy to ban cryptocurrency mining, there is a high possibility that Korean companies will become competitors to the United States."
Seo also started making actual investments. About 10 billion won was invested in Red Brick in the form of a trust, and personal funds were invested in Coinplug. Last year, he invested 80 billion won in unlisted companies through trust products or private equity funds. Carrot Market, Jikbang, and Avley are typical examples.
Although the virtual asset industry around the world was hit hard by the “Luna Incident” in May, it predicted that the demand to invest in Web 3.0 in the venture capital industry would not decrease. Director Seo said, “The virtual asset market is going through a healthy trial and error to clear the bubble.”
“Rather, there is no choice but to attract funds to blockchain companies with real technology,” he said. He also emphasized, “It is the role of PBs to quickly discover such companies.”
