The ability to display non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that you own on your KakaoTalk profile is being reviewed.

According to the industry on the 1st, Kakao is considering the 'NFT display function' as one of the profile reorganization plans for the messenger KakaoTalk it is operating.

Whether and when it will be introduced has not been confirmed, but recently Meta (formerly Facebook) announced that it would add the corresponding function to Instagram and Facebook, so it seems likely that Kakao will also follow the 'trend'.

NFTs are digital assets that can be guaranteed copyright. The unique number assigned to photos and videos is recorded on a 'blockchain' that cannot be hacked, making it easy to check whether it is genuine or counterfeit.

Only you can own the photos floating online, and because of this characteristic, it has become a trend to post NFTs on messenger profiles or social media where you can reveal yourself.

Brazilian football star Neymar set a monkey picture NFT he purchased as his Twitter profile in January. This painting is one of the NFT collections named 'BAYC (Bored Ape Yacht Club)', and is known to cost 500,000 dollars (about 650 million won).

In the same month, Twitter added the NFT profile function to its paid service 'Twitter Blue'. If you link your Twitter account with your Ethereum wallet, you can bet your NFT on your profile.

Twitter made the profile shape change to a hexagon when a user sets an NFT as a profile. When another user clicks on it, details such as the creator, owner, description, and a block chain with a unique number are displayed.

At the time, Twitter explained the background of the introduction, saying, "We confirmed that users are using NFTs to express their identities and communicate more actively."

In May, Meta announced that it was testing the 'NFT display function' on Instagram with NFT creators and collectors. By linking your Instagram account with your digital wallet and sharing your own NFTs, creators and owners are automatically tagged.

"Creators can monetize the new technology called blockchain, and fans can support their favorite creators by purchasing NFTs," said Meta. told

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on the 21st of last month (local time) that Facebook, along with Instagram, will support the NFT display function.

The NFT display function seems to require development time as it needs to be linked with a digital wallet. However, if the function is added to KakaoTalk, it is highly likely that it will be introduced along with the profile reorganization announced in the second half of the year.

At a press conference on the 7th of last month, Kakao CEO Namgung-hoon said, "We will drastically reorganize the profile area in the second half of this year to add 'non-purpose' communication elements within KakaoTalk." said.
